Depending on your cruise terminal, you want to use a different entrance to get into the port so that you can get to your ship faster. It's funny you mention the ants outtosecruise I had the same issue. Years ago I parked right next to the island like you mention thinking it was a great spot with no one parked on one side of me.....WRONG. When I returned back a week later my entire car was covered with ants. Worse than that the tree in the island had aphids....if you live in Fl you should be familiar with. Since then I haven't parked next to an island again and haven't had an issue. In Sept I parked far away from any island....all was good when I returned 8 day later.
Note that Port Everglades does not offer wheelchair service. If you need a wheelchair from the curb to ship, or parking lot to ship, contact your cruise line to make arrangements. If your flight arrives late in the evening on the night before your cruise, it is easiest to stay near the airport. When you debark, you can have the option of setting large bags outside the cabin the night before. The crew will pick them up and deliver the bags to the terminal for you.
